Long and short title : Bayesian neural networks for large-scale infrastructure deterioration models.

Short presentation

My name is Ali Fakhri. I am a second-year master’s student in Civil Engineering under the supervision of Professor James A.-Goulet. My research is about using a Bayesian neural network to improve visual inspection-based large-scale infrastructure deterioration models.

What was your method of explaining your thesis in 3 minutes?

Simplifying as much as possible without losing the essence of the topic.

What inspires you to do research?

Ultimately, the potential of making new discoveries and valuable contributions. To a lesser extent, experiencing the short burst of joy that comes when one makes progress after facing much struggle.

If you have to dedicate your research to anyone in the past, present, or future, who would it be and why?

I would dedicate it to my parents for overcoming a lot of difficulties to give me and my siblings the opportunities we had.

3 key words to define your research

Bayesian neural networks, State-space models, Infrastructure deterioration.
