Popularized title of the research work: 3D printing of intelligent structures

Short presentation

My name is Alban Morali and I am in the second year of my master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, under the supervision of professors Sampada Bodkhe and Maksim Skrobogatiy. My thesis project is about the additive manufacturing of piezoelectric sensors, using 3D printing.

What was your method to explain your thesis in 3 minutes?

I imagined myself explaining my work to a child. So I simplified all the terms to use everyday words and tried to keep my explanations as coherent as possible.

How was your research topic inspired?

My supervisor suggested the topic to me when I contacted her to come and do my master's degree under her direction.

If you were to dedicate your research to someone from the past, present or future, who would it be and why?

I would say to A.Yvon-Villarceau, a scientist of the XIXth century who was not well known despite his numerous contributions to the scientific knowledge of his time. I had the chance to live in his house in the past, and my father developed a great fascination for this man. This tribute is therefore also a nod to my parents for their unconditional support.

3 key words to define your research work

3D printing, sensor, piezoelectricity
