Long title: An electrochemical Immunosensor for Aureolysin as an early marker for Staphylococcus aureus infection
Short title: Electrochemical detection of Staphylococcus aureus

Short presentation

My name is Zahra Marvi, and I am at the last semester of my master’s in biomedical engineering. My supervisor is Doctor Geraldine Merle. My thesis is about developing a reliable, low-cost and rapid technique for detection of Staphylococcus aureus infection.

What was your method of explaining your thesis in 3 minutes?

Give some introduction about the staph bacterial infection and explain how a reliable detection could accelerate an appropriate treatment and how it effects health system and individual life qualities, then give very brief explanation of my technique avoiding jargons and using familiar examples for general audience in a way they would be able to picture the effect of my thesis outcome in their lives.

What inspires you to do research?

I started my master during pandemic. Nothing could inspire me more than seeing how an accurate diagnostic that could be easily used by patients at home, have the power to change the trajectory of a pandemic and improve the lives of those affected.

If you have to dedicate your research to anyone in the past, present, or future, who would it be and why?

I would like to dedicate my research to the young, strong and courageous women of my country, Iran, who are risking their lives for freedom and gender equality.

3 key words to define your research

Staphylococcus aureus, biosensor, electrochemistry
