REGULAR STUDENTS, AUDITING STUDENTS AND INDEPENDENT STUDENTS
Tuition and other fees presented on this page apply to all students enrolled in a graduate program, as well as independent students and student auditors for the Autumn 2024, Winter 2025, and Summer 2025 semesters.
CANADIAN STUDENTS, PERMANENT RESIDENTS STUDENTS AND INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
In accordance with guidelines and regulations set by the Government of Québec, you are subject to tuition fees associated with your status.
Québec students
Anyone with Canadian citizenship or permanent residence in Canada who has been recognized as a resident of Québec. In addition, the Certificate of Québec Resident Status form can be completed by any student born outside Québec. If the student meets the conditions to be considered a resident of Québec, they may be exempt from the additional lump sum fees. The change of status only applies from the semester in which the documents are sent to the Registrar (A-201), without retroactive effect for previous semesters.
Non-Québec Resident Canadian Students
Anyone with Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status in Canada.
French national students / Belgian French-speaking students.
As per an agreement signed between the governments of Québec and France, French national students can take advantage of the Canadian resident rate in Québec upon presentation of a valid French Republic passport. As per the agreement signed between the Government of Québec and the French-speaking Community of Belgium, Belgian students can take advantage of the Canadian resident rate in Québec upon presentation of a valid passport from the Kingdom of Belgium and be identified as French-speaking Belgian on their identification.
International Students
Consent from the province of Québec is required for individuals whose main purpose of stay in Québec is to study and who are authorized to do so (with some exceptions). Québec's consent results in the issuance of a Québec Acceptance Certificate for studies. These students are part of temporary immigration, governed by MIFI.
RESEARCH PROGRAMS – RESEARCH-BASED MASTER’S DEGREE AND DOCTORATE
Tuition fees are calculated based on a student's academic status in their program of study and the number of terms completed.

1. French student: Upon presentation of a valid French passport, as of fall 2015, French students enrolled in an undergraduate study program will be subject to tuition fees and lump sums applicable to Canadian students not resident in Quebec (CNRQ).
2. Belgian student: On presentation of a valid passport from the Belgian Kingdom and be identified as French-speaking Belgian on the basis of a copy of his identity card or on presentation of the upper secondary education certificate (CESS) or baccalaureate diploma or master's degree issued by a compulsory or higher education institution organized or subsidized by the French Community of Belgium, from autumn 2018 French-speaking Belgian students enrolled in a 1st cycle study program will be subject to tuition fees. tuition and lump sums applicable to Canadian students not resident in Quebec (CNRQ).

- All students admitted in a PhD program at Polytechnique Montréal are exempt from additional lump sum fees as long as they meet their program deadlines.

- This measure applies for one (1) semester only, for research master's or doctoral students who have completed their initial thesis/dissertation submission no later than the date indicated in the Graduate Studies Calendar, and who cannot present or defend their thesis /dissertation in the current semester for reasons which are beyond control. Note that if the student does not complete their thesis/dissertation submission this semester, and registers for another term, they will have to pay the amount normally due for this term and all subsequent semesters. Students cannot request this specific type of tuition relief a second time for the same program.

1-Academic programs are continuous, i.e. they take into account summer terms, both academically and financially.
2-After completing academic courses, students normally continues with their research activities.
3-Following semesters of research activities and before reaching the maximum program deadline, the student is in an extension of studies.

All students must pay to Polytechnique Montréal the tuition fees below in addition to other miscellaneous, administrative and insurance costs, whether full-time or part-time student, regular student, independent student, or student auditor.
Tuition fees are calculated according to the number of credits (cr.) associated with the courses in which the student registers for a semester.

As a Polytechnique Montréal student and a member of the Polytechnique Graduate Student Association (AÉCSP), you are automatically enrolled in the AÉCSP group health and dental care plan. The plan is a service offered by your student association to meet your specific needs. As the service is optional, you can use your right of withdrawal within a specified period.

Polytechnique Montréal has two insurance coverage plans for you.
1. MANDATORY health insurance on the basis of a group plan for all international students | |
This insurance plan is compulsory for all international students registered at Polytechnique Montréal. Fees payable for individual coverage are automatically added to tuition fees during the first semester of enrollment and are renewable annually. Cost: $1068/per year |

Students can cancel registration via written notice which must be received by the Registrar. The date of receipt of the cancellation notice by the Registrar is used.

TUITION FEES PAID BY AN ORGANIZATION
Exceptionally, students who present written proof that their tuition fees will be defrayed by a public or private organization and paid directly to Polytechnique Montréal can obtain authorization from the Service des finances in order to register.
NO PREVIOUS TUITION FEE BALANCE
A student cannot be registered for a semester unless they have paid fees all their fees from any previous term.
GRADUATE STUDIES
If you are an international student, a differential fee will be added to your tuition. To benefit from a fee exemption, granted to a limited number of students, you must submit your exemption request to the organization responsible for managing exemptions for your home country.
You can learn about this on the Ministère de l'Éducation et de l'Enseignement supérieur du Québec (MEES) website, through the Exemption from Differential Tuition Fees.
The list of students who have been granted exemptions is sent to us by the MEES at the beginning of each semester.
PH.D. STUDENTS
All students registered in the doctoral program at Polytechnique Montréal are exempted from the differential fees as long the student meet the deadlines to complete their studies.
MASTER'S STUDENTS
A limited number of differential fees is also available for master's students.
